Mike Scanlon

President & CEO

“When we started Thomas & King in 1988, our outcome was to build the kind of company we all wanted to work for.”  These are the words of Thomas & King Founder, President, and CEO, Mike Scanlon.  Mike’s passion sets the tone for the company’s success, and it’s a passion that leads the employees of Thomas & King to making valuable contributions of their own.  Mike is quick to share the credit for T&K’s success, and takes great satisfaction in simply being surrounded by the quality of people that have chosen to make their careers here.

Mike’s passion also extends to community service.  He has served as Vice Mayor of Lexington, and he currently serves on the boards of Georgetown College and Big Brothers-Big Sisters of the Bluegrass.  His leadership in the smoke-free movement has led to national recognition from the U.S. Surgeon General and General Colin Powell.

Beth Waldrep

Sr. Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer
bwaldrep@tandk.com

When Beth decided to join T&K as the top female executive, she spent her first nine months listening more than talking.  With over 25 years of experience in the industry, she knew the restaurant business, but not much about T&K.  She quickly grew to enjoy the freedom presented by the Home Office environment and says, “Because we’re a privately held company, the decision making process is so much faster than it is at other companies.”  Her welcoming presence and ability to bring focus to any meeting is an incredible asset to everyone involved.  Beth’s commitment to diversity and inclusion outside of T&K continues to be the foundation for contributing to the communities of which T&K is a part.

Bill Hilliard

Sr. Executive Vice President & General Counsel
bhilliard@tandk.com

While working as an attorney in private practice, Bill’s first experience with T&K was providing legal services as they were opening their first Applebee’s.  He eventually made the move to the Home Office full time, and it’s a decision that has proven to be a wonderful match.  “I appreciate the fact that one of our values is Honesty, and that we’re also dedicated to having fun,” says Bill.  He continues, “People have fun when they’re doing something worthwhile, and that’s where we are when it comes to a career with T&K.”  In addition to implementing T&K’s Dispute Resolution Plan, Bill has provided the leadership for development, restaurant re-models, and new restaurant construction.

Doug Wilson

Sr. Executive Vice President
dwilson@tandk.com

Doug brings over thirty-five years of experience in real estate acquisitions, investments and development to Thomas & King.  Before joining T&K, Doug owned and operated his own real estate company.  He has been with T&K since the beginning, and managed site development, site acquisitions, and construction of the new restaurants as the company grew responsibly.  His passion for seeing the success experienced by individuals that have come to Thomas & King is equal to his satisfaction in seeing the opportunities presented to those employees.  To see them accept and exceed in their roles is very gratifying for Doug.

Christy Metcalfe

Sr. Vice President of Marketing & WOW Communications
cmetcalfe@tandk.com

Beginning her career with T&K as a bookkeeper, Christy is a perfect example of how making valuable contributions can lead to advancement in the company.  After becoming Vice President of Marketing, Christy’s tireless efforts have led to successes such as Unlimited Soups & Salads and Perfect Portions, both unique to Thomas & King Applebee’s.  In addition to external marketing, Christy’s focus on internal marketing has led to the development of T&K’s own social networking website.  The results of the leadership she displays can be seen daily in the work ethic of her team.

Cynthia Clark

Vice President of Information Technology
cclark@tandk.com

Being presented with complex problems to solve motivates Cynthia in all she does.  Cynthia meets T&K business objectives by providing direction for the extensive responsibilities of IT strategy, policies, and projects, including computer services, network communications, restaurant systems, and information services.  Her extensive IT experience in both public and private multi-brand companies have led to T&K successes in everything from replacing each restaurant’s back office computer to relocating the entire T&K data center.  Cynthia is also an enthusiastic supporter of Habitat for Humanity and Big Brothers-Big Sisters.

Perry Sholes

Vice President of Human Resources
psholes@tandk.com

Looking at the resumé of Perry Sholes paints the picture of someone that has participated in practically every aspect of food service.  His diverse background can be attributed to working in both human resources and restaurant operations, where he has been involved with recruiting, training, development, and marketing.  Perry’s attention to detail and creativity is perfect for his role at Thomas & King.  His dedication to execution and development is a great contribution to T&K.

David Smith

Chief Financial Officer
dsmith@tandk.com
As the restaurant industry changes and as Thomas & King grows, the ways in which internal processes are managed must change as well.  David brings 30 years of restaurant industry experience to T&K, having held senior finance positions at Long John Silver’s Restaurants, Applebee’s Services Incorporated, and Fazoli’s.  His experience within this industry has been acquired while performing financial activities that include strategic planning and reengineering entire systems.  David provides the leadership for the Finance, Tax, Analysis, Accounting and Budget and Planning Departments at T&K.  His expertise provides T&K with an improved foundation upon which to build future success.

Livia Combs

 Vice President Operations
lcombs@tandk.com

Working your way to the top of this industry begins at the ground floor, and few know that as well as Livia.  Livia began her career as a crew member at McDonald’s.  Since that time, Livia’s displays of innovative leadership methods have led to the continued growth of many organizations, both in the United States and Mexico.  One of the values at T&K includes maintaining a Long Term Focus to assure that we are in business for a long time.  Livia provides an important element to fulfilling that Long Term Focus.  Through her efforts and those of her team in the West Region, T&K continues to benefit from the values that make the company strong.
